Alan and I met up with some good friends this past Friday night for an evening of fun in Atlantic City. This was my first trip to Atlantic City and although I was excited to see the city and hit the casino (even though I am not a gambler by any stretch of the imagination), our main reason for going was to listen to our friend David’s brothers band.
Alan and I took off on Friday and drove down mid day so that we would beat city traffic in Philly and shore traffic. So very glad that we did, as the weather was really horrible and would have been made much worse with more traffic than there already was. We arrived earlier than our good friends Myriah and David, so we parked at Caesars on the boardwalk and decided walk the boardwalk and take in the Pier shops and the outlets. Although the weather wasn’t all that great on Friday, it actually never rained while we were walking around….which was so nice. We bought some fudge and salt water taffy at Fralingers. The taffy is really good, and we bought the fudge for my mom (as a thanks for watching Tabby overnight.)
We bought some coffee at Starbucks in the Pier Shops and sat on the Adirondack chairs on the third level while watching the waves pounds the shore for a little bit….just enjoying some down time.
Then we hit the outlets and although there were a ton of stores to go in and out of and many a deal to be found….my sweet find was a pair of Converse ‘Chuck Taylors’. I absolutely LOVE them. Check ’em out…
After walking around for a little while, we decided to head over to Harrah’s to meet up with Myriah and David. Funny thing…Atlantic City was a little more difficult for us to navigate than we anticipated, as we ended up leaving Atlantic City (by mistake)….to get over to the hotel. When we finally did get over there, we checked in, went up to our room and then perused the casino, pool, and shops.
We met up with Myriah and David for 7:30 dinner reservations at The Steakhouse on the second floor. I apologize in advance in saying that I had all great intentions of photographing dinner with my iPhone, but we got so involved in conversation and the fact that the food was absolutely divine. I ended up ordering the Lobster Bisque, which was everything that I had hoped it would be. Beautiful color, fantastic texture and wonderful flavor. For my entree I had the Jumbo Crab cake with a side of asparagus. The crab cake was delicious and fresh. A ton of crab and not a lot of filler. And that in my world is a good crab cake. Alan ordered the New York Strip Steak, with a side of Candied Sweet potato fries in a Pecan butter. He tells me that the steak was done just the way he wanted it and had a great flavor. I can tell you first hand the fries…were OH my….delicious!!! Each couple split a Chocolate soufflé for dessert, which was also AMAZING!! Not too sweet, piping hot, the raspberry sauce that accompanied it, was the perfect complement. Needless to say we were stuffed.
After dinner we headed downstairs to the Eden lounge to listen to David’s brother’s band All About Me Band.
David’s brother Mike is the leader of the band and plays a mean trumpet!!! Their three-hour set was awesome and we had a really great time listening to them play, and watching all the crazy, strange, sweet people who crossed our path that night….here is just a glimpse:
After the music, David gave up pretty quickly and headed up to their room, Alan and I hit the casino floor for about an hour and then we headed up and the stalwart of the group Myriah was up until quarter of six, playing the machines. We all met up again around 10 the next morning for breakfast. This time I did take a few photos of our breakfast. It was VERY large (quantity wise) and extremely filling. I had the Big Freakin’ Egg Sandwich and Alan had Strawberry pancakes.
All in all we had a really nice overnight visit to Atlantic City. We got to see great friends, had fantastic food, drink, wonderful music and even a little gambling.
Thanks Myriah and David for the great time!!!! You are the best.
